Masthead comparison

All in capitals and “smashed” like the music’s so loud it broke and the name ‘kerrang’ sounds like the strum of a guitar. Suggesting kerrang’s about heavy rock music. Also the WOB is really contrasting so it stands out more.

Whereas smash hits is all lower case and smooth edges suggesting its pop music. It’s in two colours to separate the words but isn’t so contrasting.
Reader profile for my music magazine.

The reader for my music magazine will be anyone in the social status from A-E,  between 16-21 who loves alternative music and are passionate not just about the music they listen to but the bands as well.  In their daily life they play an instrument, are in a band or experienced with music in some way and they go to gigs and festivals all the time. They also go to college or university so they can get experienced in what they want to do. Their room is covered in band posters and most of their clothes consist of band t-shirts and jumpers because they like showing off the music and bands they like/ listen to.

They value their education and friends. Their aspirations are to get through college/uni, go to as many gigs and festivals as they can in their spare time but also take time out to relax and game and play music. Therefore their lifestyle is very busy, educationally and socially.

50 Cent - Candy shop

How women are represented in 50 cent – Candy Shop

In ‘Candy shop’ by 50 cent women are portrayed negatively. At the beginning 50 cent walks into a house which is full of girls that have hardly any clothes on and look like they’re waiting for him as each one looks at him sexually. This imagery and lyrics like “keep going ‘til you hit the spot” suggest that the women are just there for sex and that’s their only use. However it also suggests that the women like and enjoy doing this, there are no lyrics, even when the girl sings, that show any different. In the video they’re all up for it which also suggests they’re easy or sex deprived that do it more for enjoyment than money. There’s one girl dressed up as a nurse which in society is see as a good and respectable profession to have whereas in the video they’re just using it to be “sexy”.

The way that the women are negatively portrayed is a convention for this genre of music and the songs that 50 cent sings appeal more to men. Therefore the way the videos are set up have to appeal to men who like this genre too, hence all the half-naked women, it makes the male audience want to watch and listen more. It makes them think that they can also have this kind of lifestyle and lots of money like 50 cent is shown to have.

College Magazine Research

Simple masthead, quite smart – appeals to students as they’re smart and it’s not too in your face.

Main article – celebrity not much older than them, makes them want to read it.

All the same style – not confusing, helps show the different stories.

Tag line – appeals because students know it’s not written by someone older who may have completely different interests than them, students know what other students want to read.

The roses stand out because they are bright and the

Main picture of the skull is white making it all stand

Out more.

The used – In love and death.

The heart stands out and is hanging. It symbolises love and the fact it’s hanging symbolises death so fits in with the album name.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers- Blood Sugar Sex Magik

Flowers stand out as only thing in colour. A bit weird

Like the band and there’s a picture of each member so you know who’s in the band and you recognise them.

Cd back cover

This is my finished cd back cover.
I used the same background image as the front so it fits in with the theme.
I also used the same fonts as the band name to fir in with the theme.

Cd Cover

This is my finished Cd cover.
I choose to have different fonts for the band name because i wanted the word 'misfit' to be different as thats what it means.
The background i choose because the puzzle piece doesn't fit in again going along with 'misfit'.
The main photo i placed in the middle because it's different to the other two, it stands out more which makes it the 'specific misfit'.

Mood Board

The main background picture goes with the word 'misfit'.
The other pictures i put on here are things i think the target audience of the band would like, guitar, bands like BFMV, skateboarding and festivals like Download.
